YM2612 Jam 01

by Opus Science Collective

In this track we're testing out the VOPM synth by SAM. The VOPM emulates the Yamaha OPM (2151) FM Synthesis Chip. This chip was used in many iconic 80s SEGA arcade games and is a forerunner to the 2612 sound chip used in the SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis. It's unique sound palette gave SEGA's 16Bit offerings a unique sonic flavour (no pun intended). For us, this synth is quite simply a wonderful journey of audio nostalgia. All the sounds in this track are taken from SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis synth patches, from games like Streets Of Rage, Sonic The Hedgehog and Kid Chameleon.
