"As The Dew Does In The Sunshine / ЯК РОСА НА СОНЦІ"
A significant part of my family ancestry traces back to the western region of Ukraine, however I'll never know them, due to the aggression, brutality, imperialism and isolationism of Russian dictators in the earlier parts of the 20th Century. This new conflict therefore strikes a personal chord and has invoked in me an unfamiliar sense of hurt.
Like many, I believed this era of humanity was firmly behind us (in Europe, at least), I fear that history is repeating and many more families will be destroyed. It's utterly heartbreaking.
I have been emboldened by the immense bravery and defiance of the Ukrainian people. Whilst I've donated to Ukrainian refugee support charities, I wanted to do more. I have therefore recorded a stream of consciousness performance on the piano that reflects my emotions surrounding current events. Whilst this piece begins in a dark and sad place, it contains some hope and optimism, as I believe ultimately, liberty, truth and peace will overcome. I named the piece “As The Dew Does In The Sunshine” which is in reference to a lyric in the Ukrainian national anthem pertaining to overcoming enemies.
This piece of music is name your price on BandCamp. All proceeds from this piece of music (plus all of my March “BandCamp Friday” earnings) will be forwarded to the Ukrainian Red Cross who are currently engaged in war zones across the country, tending to both military and civilian casualties alike. We live in an age of information and the more people are informed of these atrocities, the sooner they will hopefully stop.
